“Jim’s mother and father owned the Joyland skating rink here in Midwest city, Jimmy and I went to school together and I always saw him at the skating rink. His mother and father were wonderful people and I have so many wonderful memories of skating at their rink. Jimmy was a very good young man, always smiling and laughing. I have never forgotten the day I heard that he had been killed, it just tore me up inside, the mental anguish I felt took me a long time to get over, I lost several other friends in that sorry conflict, I was in the Air Force so I never had to go through what so many of the Marines and Army personnel went through so I was truly blessed that I never had to see and feel what they saw and experienced every day. The Joyland skating rink has been gone for many years but I still pass by where it once stood and it always brings back so many good memories of our youth when we were all so innocent and naive then to be cast into a war we mentally aren’t ready for really makes a young man or woman grow up quickly. He hasn’t been forgotten and he had many friends that they never knew and the memory of him will always be a part of Midwest city.”

~Wayne Arnold

“Jimmy, I know that you are still playing ‘Faded Love’.”
